Newborn Must-Haves: 1-2 Months

2017-05-20_0038Lane is 2 months old today so I thought I would put together my newborn must-haves that have gotten us through these first months.

Earth Mama Angel Baby Bottom Balm

ABBBIn the first few weeks, poor Lane had some very raw skin within his cute little leg/groin rolls. To be honest I didn’t know if I should put baby powder on it to keep it dry or something else to heal. Enter Earth Mama Angel Baby Bottom Balm, the correct choice. The raw, peeling skin healed so fast, and you could tell he loved it and it was soothing for him the moment I put it on.

Swaddles

pod ollie

All the swaddles! Haha, but really, swaddles have been life savers. We have tried a few different ones but the ones we have liked the most are the Ollie Swaddle and the SwaddleMe Pod for newborns. The one thing about the Ollie Swaddle that I don’t like is the velcro is soo loud! It’s really startling to him sometimes in the middle of the night. What’s great about the Ollie, is it will grow with him (which makes the pricepoint somewhat justifiable). The SwaddleMe Pod is awesome because it zips up so easily and you can even just unzip the bottom for a quick mid night diaper change. He will outgrow that one pretty soon though. I think these were the winners for us mostly because of their similar stretchy, lightweight, breathable fabric.

iLuvBamboo Waterproof Changing Pad Liners

liners

These liners are meant to go on your changing pad, however I use them all over the house. If he is downstairs with us on the couch, I put one of these liners down and same thing on our bed…then I can change him wherever and also not have to worry if there is an accident. I put him on these wherever he sleeps in case he spits up or has a blow out…much easier clean up.

Portable Nightlights

lightAdd these to the list of things no one tells you that you need for a newborn. Portable nightlights! My husband and I got in so many silly mid night arguments over turning on lights. I couldn’t see what I was doing when I was trying to change the baby or breastfeed, and he thought my phone light was too bright or would turn off other lights that I had just turned on. It’s pretty funny now thinking back on this. This mini nursing light is awesome! You can even clip it on you and it turns off automatically. I think it’s good to have a portable nightlight for your changing table as well, but we are still on the hunt for the right one to put there.

Bath Sponge

SpongeYes, there are some pretty cool fancy baby baths out there right now, even ones that make sure the temperature is just right…But we have absolutely loved this really affordable and easy bath sponge to line the bathroom sink during these early days when he is so small. He seems comfortable and we save a lot of water bathing him in the sink versus the tub.

Washable Organic Bamboo Nursing Pads

NP

These nursing pads are the best and most absorbent. The Bamboobies ones while not as thick and a little more discreet, could not keep up with my leaky boobs, especially at night.

Gentle Baby, Lavender & Tummygize Essential Oils

GBUThe Gentle Baby blend and Lavender essential oils have been such lifesavers for all of us. I typically diffuse GB during the day for a more relaxing environment and then Lavender at night to encourage good sleep. Young Living recommends waiting until babies are 6 months before applying oils topically, but I have felt comfortable applying Gentle Baby as well as Tummygize to the bottom of Lane’s feet as long as they are heavily diluted with coconut oil. These have helped so much with his fussiness due to gas and other things. Make sure you consult with your pediatrician and research proper dilution before using EOs with babies.

Aden & Anais Swaddle Blankets

swaddlesOh you thought we were done talking swaddles? Nope! Can’t forget to mention Aden & Anais Swaddles. Not the regular muslin ones! You have to get the organic bamboo ones or the ones that say silky soft. There is a huge difference in the feel between these and the regular ones. Trust me! We use these blankets for everything but swaddling haha! We put it in the carseat to protect his legs from the sun, or over the carseat to block the sun but let air through since they are super lightweight…as a nursing cover, burp cloth… They really are the best blankets and get better with each wash.

Fridababy NailFrida SnipperClipper Set

frida babyThis set includes a uniquely designed nail clipper with a safety spyhole that allows you to see exactly what you’re cutting so you’re not totally freaked out that you might nick your baby’s precious little fingers. It’s curved, overlapping blades allow for safe, smooth and silent snipping. It also comes with a uniquely shaped s-file which is perfect for newborn nails. Lane’s nails grow like crazy so these tools have gotten good use.

Onesies That Wrap or Zip

BBNo one likes putting those regular onesies on. Not you, not baby. Even if you know the baby life hack that you can put it on from the bottom up and don’t need to put it over their head, they are still annoying. These wrap onesies from H&M are game changers and bonus they are made with conscious organic material. And if you are gonna do the full jumpers with the feet, get the ones that zip like this one by Burt’s Bees versus the ones that snap. It will save you so much time and hassle especially during the night.

Hope these are helpful for a new mama or mama-to-be out there 😉

Lots of love and good health,

Tasha, The Non-Toxic Newbie
